Lafayette Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

At approximately 1:00 this afternoon Lafayette Police were called out to 201 Colonial Drive in response to an attempted suicide. On arrival officers noticed a woman running towards the home and followed her in. The woman was found in a bedroom occupied by a 70 year old man. As officers began speaking to the man he produced a handgun and was shot by an officer. The suspect was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The officer involved in the shooting is a 25 year veteran of the Lafayette Police Department and he has been placed on paid administrative leave. The shooting is being investigated by the Lafayette Police Department's Officer Involved Shooting Team.
