There was an attempt in September and earlier this month, but the Lafayette Parish School Board will have to try again to select an administrator for their self-funded employee health insurance program.

In September, the board rejected a proposal by Key Benefits Administrator to be the district's new administrator but earlier this month they voted 5 to 4 to hire that company.

The problem?  The vote was improper according to Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper.  Since the issue was originally on the agenda as an introductory item then moved to an action item, they needed six votes for the measure to pass.

There were only 5 votes in favor of the decision.

Cooper says the board will revisit the issue again this Wednesday, this time to rescind the decision.  They could also decide on a different administrator for the program.
