Lafayette’s First Supermoon of 2021
Acadiana get ready, the first Supermoon of this year will appear over the Louisiana night sky this month. The "Pink Moon" will be visible after sunset on the night of Monday, April 26.
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the best time to view the "Pink Moon" will be as it rises just above the horizon. This will be when the Supermoon will appear to be its largest and brightest.
The label "Pink Moon" is not the most accurate description for the first Supermoon of 2021 as the moon will not look pink at all. The moon will actually be golden. As it rises over the Acadiana night sky, the "Pink Moon" will look golden as it creeps from beneath the horizon, then turn bright white as it gets higher in the sky overhead.
The second one this year will be May 26. There will only be two Supermoons this year.
