The playoffs for Louisiana high school football teams kick off tonight but there is already one team that has been bounced out of the postseason.

The L.B. Landry Bucs football team's season has ended with a forfeit loss to the Vandebilt Catholic Terriers in the opening round of the Division II select playoffs.

While the LHSAA didn't publicly state the reason for the forfeit, it is believed it was due to L.B. Landry playing an ineligible player during the regular season.

The Bucs were the #14 seed heading into the playoffs and had an overall record of 4-5 (one of the wins was actually a loss to Edna Karr, but it was later deemed a forfeit win after the latter also played ineligible players).

As a result of the forfeit win, No. 19 Vandebilt Catholic (4-6) advances to face No. 3 De La Salle (10-0) in the regional round.

Algiers Charter released a statement regarding the ruling and said the school learned Wednesday from the LHSAA that it would be ineligible for the postseason.

"We are very disappointed as we understand how this affects our student-athletes, Algiers Charter families, and community," the statement read.

"The mission of Algiers Charter is to deliver and support education excellence in New Orleans and ensure our children excel. That includes representing excellence in all that we do as an organization. We will stand by that mission and ensure it’s represented in all aspects, including within our athletic program."

This forfeit is something that a few Acadiana schools should have an interest in as the Division II select playoffs feature #1 St. Thomas More, #2 Teurlings Catholic, #6 Lafayette Christian, and #24 Northside.
