This one is cute: Lafayette Consolidated Government is hosting an exercise program entitled "Walking to New Orleans".

The exercise for the program, to be held at Comeaux Recreation Center on Bluebird, is walking, and the program open to people 50 years of age and older. The name, "Walking to New Orleans", is based on the program's goal of 137 miles for each participant, which is the distance from Lafayette to New Orleans.

After the past few months of being isolated and possibly inactive, it’s important that we start moving and incorporating a healthy lifestyle into our daily routines for our physical and mental health,” - Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor Denise Ferguson, Facebook

The program begins on Monday, June 15, 2020, with walkers meeting on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Comeaux Recreation Center on Bluebird Drive, behind Lourde's hospital. Organizers say that the program will follow CDC guidelines in reference to the coronavirus/social distancing.

There is no registration necessary, just show up ready to walk at 8:30am. For more information, contact Denise Ferguson at 337-291-8127, or the Parks and Recreation Department office at 337-291-8362.
