LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — A Leesville man has been sentenced to three years in prison for burglarizing homes and a truck at Fort Polk.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi on Thursday sentenced 22-year-old Dakota Yarbrough on one count of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said in a news release that Yarbrough was driven to the outskirts of the U.S. Army base around 10 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2015. He then crossed the fence onto the installation, illegally entered two residences where families were sleeping and stole personal belongings from the homes.

Yarbrough also was accused of breaking into and stealing items from a pickup truck. The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office found many of the stolen items in Yarbrough's residence after a search five days later.
