This week on "Wingin' It Wednesday", panelist Mike Stagg, former Congressman Jeff Landry, and Warren Caudle joined "Nathan and Bernie in the Morning" to discuss Rep. Katrina Jackson's proposed law that would restrict abortions in Louisiana.

Here's what the panel had to say:

1. The Louisiana Legislature is a step closer to approving a bill to further restrict abortions being performed in the state.  The House gave overwhelming approval to legislation requiring doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges to a nearby hospital.  Your thoughts?

Mike Stagg started us off:

I do not believe this is unconstitutional because there’s a similar law in Texas that the 5th circuit approved. It’s being done under health regulations, so if this gets out I think it will stand. That being said I still don’t think it’s a good thing.
The fact is, legislatures should not be trying to enforce their religious beliefs through law. This will not decrease the number of abortions, it will increase the number of dangerous abortions that will not be conducted by doctors in a medically appropriate setting.

Warren Caudle added:

The first question I would have is are any other type of physicians in Louisiana required to have admitting privileges to a hospital within 30 miles? Yes or no? Because if not, why are we making a differentiation here.
The abortion issue is one that’s very complicated and it’s emotionally charged. The question is where do you draw the line? Some people say you draw the line 30 seconds before birth. The other said says anything after the collision of the sperm and the egg should be outlawed. Most people in the middle.

Jeff Landry Concluded:

I happen to know Katrina Jackson, I was in law school with here. She’s a great person. For social conservatives this is a huge victory. To see a Democrat file a bill such as this, and to take this issue head on. If you don’t have a basic respect for life it’s hard to respect anything else.
If you listen to Katrina Jackson’s discussions you’ll find her premises are a basic respect for life. I commend her, I applaud her. I’m glad there are Democrats out there that recognize that this is an issue that we have to solve.
