Ragin’ Cajuns Beat Lamar 68-65
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Josh Brown came off the bench to score 20 points and help Louisiana-Lafayette defeat Lamar 68-65 on Sunday, snapping a seven-game losing streak.
The Ragin' Cajuns (2-8) led 55-43 after two free throws from David Perez with 10:02 left in the game, but a 3 from Lamar guard Kendrick Harris capped an 18-8 run and pulled the Cardinals to within two, 63-61, with 3:41 to go.
A layup from Coy Custer cut Lamar's deficit to 66-65 with 20 seconds left to play, but the Cardinals were unable to score again.
Charlie Harper scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Lamar.
The Cardinals (5-5) came into the game averaging 91.9 points per game — the second-highest average in the country behind the Virginia Military Institute at 95.5 points per contest.
The win for Louisiana-Lafayette is its first since a 91-66 victory over Division III Louisiana College on Nov.15.
