The 23rd-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team captured a non-conference home win on Thursday night, defeating the Lamar Cardinals, 14-3, in six-inning, mercy-rule fashion, at Lamson Park.

Louisiana scored the first eight runs of the game, and never looked back, capturing their seventh-consecutive victory.

The Cajuns hit four home runs in the game, including two from Lexie Elkins, and one each from Hayley Hayden and Kelsey Vincent.

Elkins finished 3-for-7, with two homers, two runs scored, and seven runs batted in, while Hayden went 3-for-4, with a homer, three runs, and four RBI's.

Natalie Fernandez went 4-for-4, and reached the 200-hit plateau for her career, as the Cajuns out-hit the Cardinals, 17-4

Christina Hamilton (6-1) recorded the win for UL, tossing 4.2 innings of no-hit softball, striking out eight, while Tina Schultz (2-4) suffered the loss for Lamar.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 15-5-1 on the season, while Lamar fell to 3-10.

The Cajuns, who are idle this weekend, return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Ruston to take on Louisiana Tech, before hosting the defending national champion Oklahoma Sooners on March 14 & 15.
