44 year old Robert Edgar Miles Jr. of Dry Prong, Louisiana pleaded guilty Monday to illegally excavating a protected archaeological site in the Kisatchie National Forest.

According to evidence presented at the guilty plea Forest Service officers and archaeologists found a protected campsite used by native peoples from 2000 BC to700 AD in the Kisatchie National Forest that had been excavated. During the investigation officers captured images of Miles digging at the site and later recovered multiple artifacts at his home. Miles faces a year in prison and a $10,000 fine.
