Louisiana To Celebrate World Peace Day

Each year a day is set aside to promote the idea of a peaceful world, and since 1998 the state of Louisiana has held a program to draw attention to a peaceful existence.

Next Sunday, September 30 Memorial Hall at the Louisiana State Capitol will be where citizens will gather to hear music, singing and be a part of presentations about peace.

World Peace Day is celebrated internationally every October 1.

There are a group of people who work each year on the program, and their goal, they say, is to "promote peace in individuals, families, countries and nations.

The event will begin with a musical presentation of drums from SGI-New Orleans Jazz Taiko, and they will be joined by Hrilina Ramrakhiani and her dad Rajiv, as they performed a duet with each of them singing in a different language.

Several presentations will be made during the ceremony including from the following:

LSU International Cultural Center and Student Association President Subbah Mir

Dancing by the Episcopal High School Dance members

A performance from SGI-USA Ikeda Youth Ensemble

Legislative Youth Advisory Council President Madeline Malbrough of Houma Christian School

There will also be a candle lighting ceremony to urge peace.

Attendees will also be treated to essays, artwork and peace expressions from student that can be viewed that day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
