LSU and Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada Likely to Part Ways After To Bowl Game
LSU may be on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator real soon.
Multiple outlets are reporting that the school and current offensive coordinator Matt Canada are working toward a likely split after just one season.
It appears that Canada and head coach Ed Orgeron butted heads a bit when it comes to some elements of the offense.
For example, the two seemed to be at odds after the embarrassing home loss on Sept. 30 to Troy. After that game, Orgeron said he asked Canada to scale back on the pre-snap motions and shifts for which the coordinator was known for.
However, a toned-down LSU offense failed to score in the first half of that game. Then in the second half the Tigers used more motions and shifts and scored three touchdowns in a near comeback, eventually losing 24-21.
Matt Canada was one of the names that was floated around here in Cajun country when UL was searching for a new head coach, however, we now know that he was not really in the mix.
If LSU were to part with Canada, he does have a contract that pays $1.5 million annually through the 2019 season. The only thing that would help LSU with a buyout would be if he would get a head coaching job.
As of now, LSU goes into the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 against Notre Dame with Canada as the offensive coordinator.
