Man Accused Of Killing 6-Year-Old Daughter

GRETNA, La. (AP) — A 35-year-old Terrytown man has been booked with murder in the death of his 6-year-old daughter.

Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say that Bella Lopez was pronounced dead Sunday after paramedics found her wet, naked and not breathing at the family's apartment.

Sheriff's spokesman John Fortunato said her father, Miguel Lopez, called

authorities to report that the girl was not breathing. Fortunato said paramedics found bruises on her arms, legs, neck and head.

Fortunato also said that in the emergency call, Lopez said the issue was "spiritual."

Lopez was booked Monday with second-degree murder and jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond. It couldn't be determined whether he yet had an attorney.
