Peggy & Mike Nipper

It’s not unusual for lovers to say things like, “You’ll always be a part of me.” That’s very much the case with Peggy and Mike Nipper...literally. The couple has been married for 51 years. Peggy’s kidneys were beginning to fail because of a condition called Polycystic Kidney Disease. Her mother died of the same illness.

If you’re lucky enough to get onto a national transplant list, the wait can be up to seven years. There’s also the issue of finding a hospital that will perform the surgery on someone in their 70s. Matches aren’t easy to find, either. It turns out, Mike was the perfect match. The transplant surgery was performed in November, and Peggy is reportedly doing very well.
