SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A Shreveport man has pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Twenty-two-year-old Derrick Martin was sentenced Monday in Caddo District Court, according to The Times of Shreveport.

Martin was sentenced for his part in the April 2007 deaths of Jerry Burns and Tony Stickell at an apartment in Shreveport. Burns, a quadriplegic, and Stickell, who was Burns' caregiver, were both beaten, strangled and suffocated. Investigators said Martin and an alleged accomplice set fire to the apartment in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime.
