NOLA Mayor Turns Down Saints’ Request to Have Fans at Game
Even if the New Orleans Saints end up evacuating the city ahead of the impending Hurricane Delta, it looks like there still won't be fans in the seats at the Superdome for their next game, as per their request last week. The Saints could possibly end up playing their game against the Los Angeles Chargers Monday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy, which is home to the Colts. According to reporter Jeff Duncan with the Athletic, team officials are monitoring the situation, and will probably make a decision as early as Thursday.
In spite of the decisions to be made about evacuating, New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell has turned down the team's request to have fans attend at 25% capacity in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for Monday night's game. A Saints official reported the update to the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate on Wednesday. However, the team can still have the approximately 750 family members of coaches, staff, and players attend on Monday night, the same as they had for the game against Green Bay on September 27.
25% capacity would be about 18,500 fans. Full capacity is 74,295. In order for fans to attend games at the Superdome, it has to be signed off by Louisina Governor John Bel Edwards, and mayor Cantrell. Edwards gave the OK for Monday night, but Cantrell did not.
The next home game for the Saints will be against the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 25. Who Dat, baby!
