French gymnast Samir Ait Said shattered his leg during preliminary competition at the Rio Olympics Saturday. Officials say the 26-year-old has already had surgery to repair the broken tibia. He plans on being back at the auditorium to cheer on his teammates.

Fans in the arena say they could hear a loud "crack" as Said landed after completing two backward flips off the vault. They say he remained quiet after the devastating injury, the only signs of anything wrong were a slight grimace and the odd angle of his leg.

Poor Samir's day wasn't done being awful. As he was being loaded onto the ambulance, apparently, emergency personnel dropped the stretcher Said was on.

According to USA Today, this is the second major tibia injury for Said. In 2012, he broke the opposite leg in three places during the European championships shortly before the Olympic games were to begin.
