An 18-person panel has been chosen to study the state's four college system governing boards and the possible virtues of merging them into one. One of those selected for the commission is Council for A Better Louisiana (CABL) president Barry Erwin. He says this is a topsy-turvy time for the state's universities and colleges.
Erwin says the commission will seek ways that higher education boards could operate more effectively and efficiently, and one of those ways would involve merging the boards into one. Erwin says legislation to form just one college board failed to gain traction with state lawmakers this Spring.

Lawmakers did pass a resolution calling for a commission to study ways to improve the college boards system, and report back to them. Erwin says he and fellow panel members have four months to reach their conclusions.
