Top Aide to AG Jeff Landry, Pat Magee Resigns in Wake of New Sexual Harassment Allegations
The Acadiana Advocate is reporting that Pat Magee has submitted his resignation.
Magee is a top aide to Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and earlier today a second person came forward with sexual harassment complaints, alleging that Magee "assigned women in his office to handle cases he deemed good for women." The complainant also said she and other women "styled themselves to avoid unwelcome attention from Magee."
This new development comes after a separate four-page complaint was published on Monday after a judge ordered its release. There was somewhat a magnifying glass on the issue being that it went to court after Attorney General Jeff Landry sued Advocate reporter Andrea Gallo in early February, two months after she filed a public records request to obtain the November sexual harassment complaint against Magee.
Not long after the second complaint was reported, Claire Taylor with The Advocate broke the news that Magee has officially submitted his resignation to be effective at 5 p.m. today (Mar. 11).
Magee is a resident of Lafayette and has been head of the criminal division of AG Jeff Landy's office since 2018. In a statement to The Acadiana Advocate Magee announced his resignation.
Due to recent false and unjust allegations against me and after an exhaustive and gut-wrenching investigation, which concluded my conduct did not rise to the level of sexual harassment, I have made this personal and very difficult decision.
In his statement, Magee also acknowledged the honor of being "the first Black man to serve as director of the state Department of Justice Criminal Division."
