Perret To Run For Third Circuit Court Of Appeal
LAFAYETTE, LA – Candyce Perret, an attorney, business owner and former city prosecutor with a diverse legal background, announces she is running for the open seat on Louisiana’s Third Circuit Court of Appeal. Perret, a Republican from Lafayette, made the announcement surrounded by family, friends and supporters at Don’s Seafood Restaurant.
“I’ve dedicated my life to the law and am ready to make the tough decisions that will come before me on the Third Circuit,” Perret said. “Our justice system should be the source of fairness, transparency, accountability and stability in our government – now more than ever. I have a demonstrated record of success based on hard work, a uniquely diverse expertise in virtually all areas of law that come before the Third Circuit, and a respect for our laws and constitution that make me the best candidate to join this court.”
The seat is being vacated by Judge Jimmy Genovese, who was elected to the Louisiana Supreme Court. A special election has been called for March 25. The district covers eight parishes: Acadia, Allen, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion.
Perret’s candidacy has attracted broad support in the short time since the election was announced. To date, donors have contributed close to $80,000, at one point contributing more than $40,000 in just four days. Campaign funds have reached $130,000.
Perret, 46, is a lifelong conservative, with rural roots and a background of faith, family, service and hard work. She grew up in Marksville, where she was valedictorian at Marksville High School. Her father worked at Angola, and her mother was an English teacher.
“My parents taught me the value of hard work and self-reliance,” she said. “Our political climate right now makes it clear we need a strong judicial branch. At a time when Louisiana leads the world in incarceration, when we rank as the second deadliest state for women, when historic economic opportunity and growth is taking place in the Third Circuit’s jurisdiction, we need the right judges on the bench. I look forward to earning your support for this important election.”
In more than 20 years practicing law, Perret has served as City Prosecutor for Marksville, and as city attorney for Arnaudville, Leonville, Krotz Springs and Port Barre, working hand-in-hand with law enforcement. She worked with several prestigious law firms, as a litigator at a country practice, as a business attorney and as senior law clerk for the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.
Today, Perret serves as general counsel and co-owner of The Perret Group, L.L.C., a small business working in real estate, healthcare and oil & gas. Candyce and her husband Hunter live in Lafayette with their three children, Paxton, Pierce and Preiss, where the Perret family is active in community service. Candyce is a volunteer and patron of Miles Perret Cancer Services, serves on the Executive Committee and Board of One Acadiana, Campaign Leadership Committee of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church, was president of the Avoyelles Parish Bar Association and is active in the Lafayette Parish Bar Association. She volunteers at St. Mary Catholic Church, with The Order of Malta, and is a member of the Kiwanis Club and League of Women Voters of Louisiana.
