A Change.org petition is calling for the removal of a Catholic priest from a Church in Erath, Louisiana.

The petition, created by Ashlie Langlinais, was started after Father Metrejean of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath posted a photo of the Mercedes Benz Superdome lit up with the Gay Pride colors, along with the following status update:

"Come on NOLA Saints. We want to support you. But this kinda stunt hurts society and souls. Don’t bow down to these pressure groups. Kids have rights. Children deserve to have a dad and mom. Plz don’t support immorality. Cancel the PC Culture.” - Change.org

Also in question is a comment he made to a concerned citizen about masks and proper social distancing during Mass. According to Karen McCain, Fr. Metrejean told her that he wasn't concerned about the coronavirus because it only affected the Black community. McCain, who took to Facebook to post her feelings, seemed to be more concerned about the comments on the post than about the original statement the priest made:

McCain makes a good point when she said that the priest created a platform that was unsafe and harmful, allowing Facebook users to attack members of the LGBTQ community through his post.

What are your thoughts on this? Should the diocese consider the petition? Or should they just allow their priests to continue to marginalize the LGBTQ community?
