Petition To Replace Confederate Monuments With Britney Statues
The world is changing, there is absolutely no doubt about that. It may appear that it's happening quickly too, but really what we've been seeing over the last few weeks is just the fruits of labor that started over 100 years ago.
Just in recent weeks, we've witnessed some incredible changes to American culture. From sports to streaming services, there have been multiple steps to combat systemic racism. Here's a quick review of what we've seen recently:
Just look at that huge list (which isn't even everything). That's not stuff that happened over the last year, or 5 years...that's all from the last couple weeks. Again, the country is going through major changes right now.
None of those changes are probably as shocking as NASCAR's decision to ban Confederate paraphernalia. The United States Marine Corps decision to do the same wasn't as shocking, because the Marines would have been who the Confederate army would have been fighting against. But NASCAR seemed like one of the last mainstream organizations to ban the symbol.
Now the attention is being turned to monuments built in cities across the United States. Not just Confederate monuments, but any symbol of oppression or racism is being targeted.
One way people are drawing attention to this movement is by offering ideas for replacement monuments. In Louisiana, this has taken an interesting turn. Well, it actually took this turn years ago, but with the new attention on the subject, this concept is catching fire again.
The idea is to replace Confederate monuments with statues of Britney Spears...
You can find the petition right here, it currently has more than 50,000 signatures. Inside the petition, they list out a ton of reasons to make the change. That's right, this isn't a joke, this is a serious movement with serious ideas behind it.
First of all, why Britney Spears? Well, because she's the Queen of Louisiana of course. Though technically born in McComb, Ms, it's because her family lived in Kentwood, La, and McComb was the closest hospital. She was raised in Kentwood (a Louisiana town of less than 3,000 people. Her career has spanned decades, and she's generally recognized as one of the biggest musicians of a generation.
So does the idea of replacing Confederate monuments in the state with statues of Britney Spears speak to you? Does this offering change your opinion on the subject? Or are you just all in on everything Britney? If you're down with the idea, you can join more than 50,000 others in asking Louisiana's Governor to make the switch here:
