Rodrigo Duterte, 16th President of the Philippines, caused outrage in his country and abroad by suggesting everyone clean protective face masks by dipping them into gasoline or diesel fuel.

President Duterte asked the people of his country to please wear face masks to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 on Tuesday, but the suggestion to disinfect them was highly inaccurate. The Philippines Department of Health is warning citizens to disregard his advice.

The Philippines have been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic with almost 71,000 infected. According to Johns Hopkins University, the numbers a more than likely much higher due to limited testing and autopsies.

President Duterte said his government has no problem arresting individuals who refuse to wear masks in public places. A trip to the police station would give you, "a lesson for all time".

WARNING: DO NOT WASH FACIAL MASKS IN GASOLINE OR DIESEL FUEL.
