A disturbing international trend has now affected Pope Francis.

The pontiff's plane was struck by a laser as it landed in Mexico City, according to Huffington Post. Pope Francis' plane landed safely in Mexico City without further incident.  Planes across the globe have been targeted by laser pointers more frequently in the last few years, which the FBI warns is extremely dangerous to pilots, their crews, and passengers.

Targeting planes with laser pointers is a federal crime, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The FBI currently offers $10, 000 rewards for information regarding laser - shining incidents. Watch the video above for more information about the dangers lasers present to pilots.
