The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says portions of the public oyster grounds will close for the season this Friday, March 20.

LDWF will close the grounds east of the Mississippi River and north of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet.

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission had the power to open the grounds on March 16 and not to close them based on data from the area.

LDWF says the protection of oyster resources is their top priority when it comes to that industry.
