Cameron Company, 12 People Indicted In Oyster Scheme
A Texas oyster company and 12 people associated with that company are charged with federal charges of illegal harvesting and selling raw oysters.
According to the United States Attorney's Office in Lafayette, the Bay Fresh Oyster Company, Incorporated, violated the Lacey Act by harvesting raw oysters from Calcasieu Lake in violation of state laws. Prosecutors also accuse the company and the 12 men of not reporting the oysters as required by law. They also allege the company and the individuals harvested more oysters than allowed by law, harvested the oysters outside of legal harvesting hours, and did not refrigerate the oysters in a timely manner.
The 12 individuals are Adley Dyson; Clarence Dyson, III; Kirk Daigle; Kent Duhon; Robert Watson; Kerwin Perry; Jenson Griffith; Kasey Mock; Terry Dickens; Phillip Dyson; and Phillip Dyson, II; all of Cameron; and Brandon Duhon, of Lake Charles.
A court date in this case is scheduled for March 10.
