Possible Tornado Causes More Damage in Vernon Parish
Vernon Parish has had a very difficult week. Almost all of the angst has come in the form of severe weather that's affected the parish in our two most recent bouts of storms. First, there was a confirmed EF1 tornado that touched down near Leesville on Sunday. That storm did significant damage to trees and homes in the area.
Then in the round of storms that moved across Louisiana late Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday, there was more storm damage reported in the parish. Sheriff Sam Craft suggested in comments that he made to the media that he felt the parish "got off light" as far as damage goes from the midweek storms.
Investigators were in Vernon Parish yesterday looking at damage to trees and homes. They will take that information and attempt to determine if the storm damage was tornadic or more straight-line winds. There were severe weather warnings issued for Vernon Parish during the height of Wednesday's storms so another tornado touchdown can't be ruled out.
Fortunately Wednesday's storms there were no injuries or fatalities reported. The outlook for this weekend should be conducive for property owners to get outside and clean up debris and make repairs should that be necessary.
