Prepare for Traffic Shift on Kaliste Saloom Road at Roundabout Project
July 7, 2020 - A traffic shift on the section of Kaliste Saloom Road where it is being widened to five lanes will begin on Monday, July 13 at 9:00 a.m. as construction crews complete the final phase of the roundabout at E. Broussard and Kaliste Saloom Roads.
“Drivers will still be able to get to and from any direction at this intersection,” Lafayette Consolidated Government Public Works Engineer III Mark Lavergne said.
E. BROUSSARD TO JOHNSTON/JOHNSTON TO E. BROUSSARD
- Drivers on E. Broussard traveling to Johnston Street (northbound) will detour at the roundabout onto the new section of Kaliste Saloom Road, cross the new bridge, and will turn left at the new temporary traffic signal in front of Grand Pointe Apartments, then onto the OLD Kaliste Saloom Road, which heads back to the existing intersection and traffic signal at E. Broussard Road.
- Drivers on E. Broussard Road coming from Johnston Street (southbound) can continue southbound through the roundabout or turn left onto the old Kaliste Saloom Road.
AMBASSADOR CAFFERY TO KALISTE SALOOM ROAD
- Drivers coming from Ambassador Caffery to Kaliste Saloom Road (westbound) will be forced to travel on the old Kaliste Saloom Road to the traffic signal at E. Broussard Road, where they can turn left or right onto E. Broussard Road.
Roundabout construction is expected to be completed sometime in September, weather permitting. Traffic will then shift back to the new portion of Kaliste Saloom Road, allowing drivers to move freely through the roundabout at E. Broussard Road.
“With the new roundabout, especially compared to stop signs or traffic signals that are in place now, traffic will move more efficiently,” Lavergne said.

(June 25, 2020) A couple of announcements have been made concerning the two road projects involving Kaliste Saloom Road, E. Broussard Road, and Robley Drive.
KALISTE SALOOM ROAD WIDENING
A 2.2-mile project is in place that will widen the stretch of Kaliste Saloom Road to E. Broussard to five lanes, with a center turn lane, sidewalks, and a roundabout at E. Broussard near Cue Road.
Chief Communications Officer Jamie Angelle with Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory's Office announced these updates:
- The segment from E. Broussard Road to Grande Pointe Apartments (Phase 3-A) is approximately 85 percent complete, which includes pavement construction at the intersection north of the bridge at Grand Pointe Apartments on Kaliste Saloom Road, repaving a portion of “old” Kaliste Saloom Road, and a newly constructed bridge over the Isaac Verot Coulee. The multi-lane roundabout is approximately 50 percent complete.
- From Grande Pointe Apartments to Ambassador Caffery (Phase 3-B), on the west side of the roadway, 95 percent of drainage work and 25 percent of the roadway base, and 5 percent of the concrete pavement have been completed.
- A significant traffic shift on Kaliste Saloom is anticipated in the very near future to complete the construction of the roundabout. The Department of Transportation and Development has approved the traffic plan; further information will be released once the date of the shift is scheduled.
E. BROUSSARD ROAD @ ROBLEY DRIVE
Lafayette Parish Councilman John Guilbeau posted an update on his Facebook page about overlay proeject of Robley from E. Broussard to the parish line:
"A number of you are asking about the schedule to lay the asphalt on Robley Drive. In speaking with the project managers, the work to overlay, weather permitting, is the middle to late next week. This phase will take approximately 3 working days. We should be driving over a nice smooth surface shortly."
For those living along Robley Drive during this construction, this is great news! The dust has been heavy during the hot days and the roadway has turned very muddy during this week of rain.

ORIGINAL STORY
(May 14) A couple of road improvements announced today involving Kaliste Saloom Road, E. Broussard Road, and Robley Drive will look to make lives much easier for residents and people who drive through those areas often and on a daily basis.
KALISTE SALOOM ROAD TO E. BROUSSARD ROAD
A 2.2-mile project is in place that will widen the stretch of Kaliste Saloom Road to E. Broussard to five lanes, with a center turn lane, sidewalks, and a roundabout at E. Broussard near Cue Road.
According to Chief Communications Officer Jamie Angelle with Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory's Office, the segment from E. Broussard Road to Grande Pointe Apartments is approximately 70 percent done. This includes pavement construction at the intersection north of the bridge at Grand Pointe Apartments on Kaliste Saloom Road, repaving a portion of “old” Kaliste Saloom Road, and a newly constructed bridge over the Isaac Verot Coulee. Angelle says the multi-lane roundabout is approximately 50 percent complete.
Angelle also points out that the work being done on the section of Kaliste Saloom from Grande Pointe Apartments to Ambassador Caffery is 55 percent complete when it comes to drainage work and 25 percent complete when it comes to the roadway base. In approximately two weeks, the contractor will begin laying concrete on that segment.
E. BROUSSARD ROAD @ ROBLEY DRIVE
Lafayette Parish Councilman John Guilbeau says on his Facebook page that a right turn lane is being added from Robley to E. Broussard. He says Slemco crews are in the process of moving power poles to make room for that work.
“Looking beyond, I plan to continue my efforts for the installation of a signal light at the intersection to improve the safety of the intersection,” says Guilbeau.
Guilbeau also points out that highway crews are expected to do a complete overlay of Robley from E. Broussard to the parish line within the next couple of months. For those who drive through that area, they know that Robley is an incredibly bumpy road and the potholes on it have been filled recently. But this overlay would address the situation significantly better.
“This project, coupled with the Kaliste Saloom and Johnston Street projects, when complete, will certainly make our travels much better in the area.” says Guilbeau.
