Public Hearings Set On Use Of New Orleans Campuses
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The state agency that runs most public schools in New Orleans plans a series of meetings in that city's five council districts to gather opinions on plans for new and renovated school buildings.
The
said in a news release this week that it will hold the meetings in January so residents can discuss a master plan for the use of more than 120 campuses scattered around the city. That includes the planned replacement or renovation of 87 campuses and the "land-banking" of 48 other campuses that may be put to other uses in the future.
The Recovery District took over many New Orleans schools following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
