Saturday morning much of South Louisiana was impacted heavy rains, gusty winds, and frequent lightning as a line of strong storms moved through the area. We could see a repeat of that kind of inclement weather in the area as early as Tuesday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the weather system that is forecast to impact the area beginning Tuesday will not move out of the area nearly as fast as Saturday's storm system moved through. In fact, South Louisiana could have a chance of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast all the way through the weekend.

As of now, the Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a "slight to marginal" threat of severe storms over the western and northwestern sections of the state beginning Wednesday. This forecast will likely be revised over the next 24 hours and we will have a much better idea of just how bad the weather might be for our part of the world.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles are suggesting the best chance for rain and thunderstorms will begin Tuesday afternoon. They are suggesting a 60% probability of rain after 1 pm on Tuesday.

Rain chances will likely stay at 50% or better from Tuesday evening all the way through Friday. Now, don't misunderstand what forecasters are saying. This won't be a total washout with rain falling all the time. In fact, many of the showers and storms will be of the hit and miss variety.

We will simply have to wait and see how this forecast will affect events such as the Rayne Frog Festival, the Chennault International Airshow, and Mommy and Me's Kidsfest that are scheduled for this weekend.
