YouTube Rapper Convicted of Murder in Ambush of Louisiana Man
Opelousas, LA (KPEL News) - A Louisiana YouTube rapper who published songs on the social media platform about Glock 9s, revenge, and spiced with movie and celebrity quotes from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" to Mike Tyson will spend the rest of his life in jail after he and another suspect ambushed an Opelousas man and killed him.
27-year-old Marcus Chenier of Opelousas has published rap music and videos under the name "Yungun" on YouTube for at least 4 years. The lyrics are laden with profanity and violent messaging, and the subjects brandish guns in a few of the videos.
The following YouTube video is NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK OR CHILDREN, but is indicative of the tone and messaging in the majority of Chenier's videos.

Both Chenier and 26-year-old Jevon Figaro of Lafayette were convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Kelly Guidry.
The St. Landry Parish District Attorney's Office says Chenier and Figaro ambushed Guidry on January 23, 2021 at a location on North Market Street in Opelousas. Each of them was wielding a semi-automatic weapon.
They fired a pistol-style AR 15 and a full barrel rifle, the bullets ripping through Kelly who fell near the railroad tracks. Neighbors and an officer in the vicinity report hearing the barrage of shots.
More than twenty .223 and 5.56 casings were found at the crime scene. The prosecutor also showed Spirit Airline flight records and cell phone records to the jury. All that evidence, in conjunction with testimony, led the jury to the convictions in under two hours.
The case marked the first joint trial in St. Landry Parish in more than 25 years. Assistant District Attorneys Katie Ryan and Laura Signorelli prosecuted the case.
A second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.
