Saints Re-Sign Long Snapper Zach Wood
Less than a month before the league's new calendar year, the New Orleans Saints re-signed one of their own.
Long snapper Zach Wood, who played in every game of the 2017 season and postseason, agreed to a one year deal worth $550,000, as first reported by Herbie Teope of The Times Picayune.
Wood was scheduled to become an exclusive rights free agent on March 14th (beginning of new NFL calendar year).
Being that no NFL team would outspend on a long snapper, as long as New Orleans wanted Wood back, there was no reason to wait until free agency.
Wood, an undrafted player out of SMU, signed with the Saints a 3 days before their season started after long snapper Jon Dorenbos was diagnosed with a serious heart condition that required surgery.
