Separate Shootings in Lafayette Leave One Dead, One in Hospital
Lafayette Police worked two separate shootings on Wednesday.
42-year-old Johnathan Bargeman of Lafayette has been arrested after an argument turned violent on Wednesday. Lafayette Police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Griffin says 20-year-old Markeylan Edmond, also of Lafayette, was found dead in the road in the 100 block of S. Refinery Street. Bargeman, who was on scene when officers arrived, was arrested after he allegedly ended the argument by shooting Edmond in the upper torso. Bargeman has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm and has been transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center where he was booked. The investigation continues.
An arrest has been made after a shooting victim was found unresponsive at a Lafayette hotel in the 2200 block of the NE Evangeline Thruway on Wednesday. Sgt. Griffin says the male victim is listed in critical condition. The suspect is described as a juvenile male. The names of both the victim and the suspect can not be released at the time.
