UPDATE: I-10 Opens After Hostage Situation Closes Lake Charles I-10 Bridge

UPDATE: (11:33 A.M.) The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says that I-10 is open again after being closed due to a hostage situation nearby.

The I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles is closed because of a hostage situation at a nearby motel.

Trooper Derek Senegal tells KPLC-TV that the suspect barricaded himself inside the motel near the bridge after firing shots in the area. Senegal says the interstate is shut down in both directions. No word on how long the interstate will be closed. Drivers should detour to I-210 or other highways to avoid the area.

State troopers are assisting Lake Charles police with shutting down the interstate.
