Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins has made if official. He is running for re-election. Perkins tells KTBS "my heart and my energy remains with the citizens of Shreveport."

Perkins did say he was approached by folks with the Biden administration about a possible position, but he has decided to stay in Shreveport.

"I'm not taking a job in D.C. because I wouldn't have a direct impact on Shreveport. I have a 4 year mayoral term and I have the option to run again and I'm gonna run again to continue to serve the citizens of Shreveport. That's where my heart is."

Perkins gives his administration a B-minus for it's first 2 years. He says they had to deal with a pandemic, an economic crisis, a hurricane and civil unrest during 2020 and it was a challenge. He says his team is doing all they can to hold on to the quality of life here. He also says his team is young and they had to learn how things work in city government. He adds "we're stronger than ever going into 2021."

Perkins says "I want to do what's best for the families here in our city."

The mayor is now pushing a $200 million dollar bond package to make improvements across our city. He says a priority is public safety.

We've got to put our police and firemen in the best facilities they can possibly have so they can go out and keep our communities safe.

Perkins also wants to focus on economic development and he is asking for money to install fiber into the ground across our community.so we can have access to reliable and affordable internet.
