St. Martinville Man Nabbed In Stolen Gun Case
Officials with the St. Martinville Police Department say that a man that fled from him Monday night was arrested on several charges after they caught up to him.
St. Martinville Police Department Spokesman Adam Touchet says officers went to talk to Terrell Fontenette near Cemetary Street after they realized the man had an active warrant.
Fontenette kept riding his bicycle, and he just ignored the police officers.
At some point, Fontenette decided to dump his bike, and he ran away from police dropping a backpack along the way along with a gun. That was not the only item that police recovered from the scene.
When officers got to that area, the recovered what they think are MDMA tablets along with some Methamphetamine along with a gun that it turns out had been stolen earlier this month.
Touchet says that the firearm that they recovered is the same one that was stolen during the February 4 incident, and that is the very incident that spawned the arrest warrant for Fontenette in the first place.
The 38-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges, and those charges include:
- Possession of Schedule II Methamphetamine
- Possession of Schedule I MDMA
- Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
- Illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Resisting an officer
- Two counts of Illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
Fontenette was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center Monday evening.
According to Touchet, the officers that were responding to this situation as find a 9 millimeter magazine for the gun that was recovered.
