Governor Jindal does not want to give pay raises to state workers because of Louisiana's tough fiscal situation. State workers might not receive a pay raise next fiscal year. The Jindal administration has sent a request to the state civil service commission to cancel pay hikes for some 56-thousand rank-and-file state employees.

says the state is in a tough fiscal situation. The state is facing a one-point-six billion dollar shortfall next fiscal year. Rainwater says Louisiana would save 55-million dollars by by not giving state workers a pay raise. Rainwater has asked to go before the civil service commission next week to seek approval. He says if approved, this would be the second consecutive year that state workers were not eligible for a four-percent pay hike.
