Supreme Court Denies Marshal Brian Pope’s Appeal
The Louisiana Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal from Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope over his refusal to offer public records to a Lafayette news organization.
Pope's appeal--that challenged a suit from a reporter at The Independent over the release of public records--was denied by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in September.
Court documents show the reporter, Christiaan Mader, was seeking e-mails regarding Pope's involvement in aiding the campaign of Lafayette Parish Sheriff's candidate Chad Leger.
In August, a grand jury indicted him on two counts of perjury and three counts use of public funds to urge electors to vote for or against a candidate.
