Update: 23-year-old Darrell Shelvin has been arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for Second Degree Murder in the death of the 37-year-old Lafayette man. Cpl. Nicole Benoit with Lafayette Police says he was located and arrested in the 1000 block of St. Charles Street.


A shooting around 6:00 a.m. Monday morning in the 500 block of East Foch Street leaves a 37-year-old Lafayette man dead and his accused killer on the loose.

Lafayette Police spokesperson Nicole Benoit says, according to witnesses, the suspect shot the victim once in the lower abdoman after a fight between the two. Darrell Shelvin of Lafayette is believed to be the shooter. He got away before officers arrived on the scene.
