The man convicted of committing the 2013 Boston Marathon attack, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, had his death sentence overturned in court today. The bombing killed three people and injured over 260 others.

Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty to federal charges.

One year after two homemade bombs killed three people and wounded more than 260 others, the Boston Marathon returns to the streets for its 118th edition Monday.

Between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., a flag-raising ceremony and moment of silence will be held at the marathon finish line, to mark the time and place where the two bombs exploded.

Two ethnic Chechen brothers are accused of carrying out the attacks.

"We will prosecute this terrorist through our civilian system of justice," Carney said. "Under U.S. law, United States citizens cannot be tried in military commissions."

The pre-game ceremony also recognized those who lost their lives in the bombings and those who still continue to heal as they recover from their injuries.

Students at Northeastern University crowded into the streets, clapping and cheering at passing police officers, waving American flags and singing the country's National Anthem.
