National Weather Service investigators confirm EF-1 and EF-3 tornadoes struck Allen and Acadia Parishes on Sunday. 27-year-old Latreka Dominick was killed.
A dangerous storm system in the Midwest produced dozens of tornadoes for the second consecutive day Tuesday, demolishing a racetrack grandstand and damaging buildings in a wild animal park in Missouri but sparing St. Louis, the biggest city in its path.
There were several reports of hail. There were, even more, reports of heavy rainfall and flooding. There were reports of strong gusty winds. Sadly, there were reports of fatalities.
A meteorologist with the National Weather Service says it's unusual that dual tornadoes have funnel clouds of roughly the same strength. Severe weather also damaged nearby counties.
On Sunday more than 80 tornadoes tore through the Midwest, killing at least six people in Illinois, injuring dozens more, leveling homes and businesses, and leaving a swath of destruction from Missouri through Michigan.
UPDATE Saturday 6:15 a.m. EST: The number of reported fatalities is at least five, with another 71 injuries caused by what authorities say are a total of 17 tornadoes ripping through the Midwest on Friday.
