The Tea Party of Lafayette

meets at the South Lafayette regional library tonight with a presentation about TIFs featuring Carol Ross.

They also plan to gather for the upcoming Lafayette city parish council meeting on June seventh. The group supports a proposed ordinance by councilmen Theiot and Bellard that would require all TIFs and taxes to come before a vote of the people.  Below is a message from Joyce Linde, to members, about tonight's meeting and next week's Lafayette City Parish Council Meeting:

"Dear Friends and Patriots,

Once again thank you for your strong and rapid response to the recent ACTION ALERT to call the Senate Local and Municipal Affairs Committee and tell them to VOTE NO on HB 531.  This is a poorly written and ill-conceived bill, but thanks to all of you who made phone calls and emailed the committee it was removed from the Agenda today, Thursday May 26TH!!!

WITHOUT A DOUBT ---- TEA PARTY OF LAFAYETTE HAS A VOICE...AND THIS IS BECAUSE YOU, OUR MEMBERS AND YOUR FRIENDS HAVE CHOSEN TO STAY INVOLVED!!!  WE THANK YOU FOR THIS!   IT MAKES EVERYTHING WORTH WHILE.

Several of us "motored" to the Capitol together to be ready to testify in opposition of this bill, but it was DEFERRED prior to the meeting.  DEFERRED MEANS IT WILL RETURN!  BUT WE ARE KEEPING AN EVER WATCHFUL EYE ON THIS AND OTHER BILLS!  SO STAY TUNED!  Be assured our voices are being heard and our strength is growing.  The politicians are not accustomed to having citizen involvment...BUT IT IS HERE NOW....

We have plans for a Town Hall on Wednesday, June 1st at South Regional Library, from 6 to 8 pm.  (doors open at 5:30).  Carol Ross is our guest speaker and will talk about, "TIF AND TAXES:  COMING SOON TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU".  We will also have a brief power point showing you what is in HB 531 and wnhy we opposed it.  For TEA Party of Lafayette it represents another level of government , a five member unelected board that is not accountable to the voters.

Please join us for this Town Hall on June 1st.  for more information go to our website:  www.teapartyoflafayette.com.
June 7th - 5:30 PM at the Lafayette City Hall, 705 West University - The LCG Council will vote on the ordinance sponsored by Councilmen William Theriot, District 9 and Jared Bellard, Dist 5.  This ordinance states that "all taxes and TIF-Districts must come before the Voter before a tax or TIF can be imposed upon the citizens."  Sounds good to me!
