This Week in the Sun Belt – Week Two
Nine of the ten teams in the Sun Belt Conference are in action this week. Troy, after beating Campbell in their opener, is idle this week. Six of the teams are playing at home, three against FCS opponents. Two schools are playing Power 5 opponents.
CHARLOTTE (+21') AT APPALACHIAN STATE (2:30, ESPN+)--The Mountaineers hammered the 49ers 45-9 a year ago in Charlotte. App State has won seven straight games, which is tied for the third longest (with Ohio State) in the FBS. Clemson and Army have longer streaks.
ULM (+21) AT FLORIDA STATE (4:00, ACC Network)--ULM rushed for 315 yards against Grambling last week. Teams last met in 2017.
MAINE (+7) AT GEORGIA SOUTHERN (5:00, ESPN+)--The teams have met three times, all in the 1-AA/FCS playoffs. Black Bears reached the FCS Semifinals last year.
COASTAL CAROLINA (+8') AT KANSAS (6:00 ESPN+)--Coastal's campus has been closed since Sept. 2 because of the threat of Hurricane Dorian. All of their athletic teams have moved inland.
FURMAN (+7) AT GEORGIA STATE (6:00, ESPN3--Furman is ranked #17 in the FCS. First meeting, but GSU coach Sean Elliott has faced the Palladins 15 times as an assistant at App State and South Carolina.
JACKSON STATE (+27') AT SOUTH ALABAMA (6:00, ESPN3)--After a close call at Nebraska, the Jags host a SWAC school for the third straight season.
WYOMING (-7) AT TEXAS STATE (6:00, ESPN+)--Impressive win for the Cowboys last Saturday over Missouri. Texas State's Jake Spavital is the second youngest coach in the FBS (Kent State-Sean Lewis).
LIBERTY (+13) at LOUISIANA (6:30, ESPN+)--JaMarcus Bradley has caught a pass in 28 straight games.
ARKANSAS STATE (+1') AT UNLV (9:00, Stadium)--Red Wolves won last year's meeting 27-20. Omar Bayless had 10 catches for 152 yards and four touchdowns last week in the loss to SMU.
