Toro’s Clutch Hit Propels Cajuns To Road Victory
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was looking to continue their winning streak when they went on the road to face Nicholls State. The Cajuns would get the timely hitting when they needed it and they would defeat Nicholls State 3-1 to move to 4-7 on the year.
Neither the Cajuns nor the Colonels really got much of anything going through the first 3 innings. The Cajuns had a runner at 2nd once but couldn't get him to advance any further. The Cajuns had couple opportunities in the 4th and 5th innings when they had runners at the corners but they ran into a close double play in the 5th to end their scoring threat.
Jacob Schultz had a no -hitter through 4 innings of play but the Colonels got a 2 out hit in the bottom of the 5th inning to break up the no hitter. The Cajuns would take the lead when Handsome Monica would hit a solo home run in the top of the 6th. The Colonels would tie the game in the bottom of the 6th on a bunt single to make it 1-1.
The Cajuns biggest chance to retake the lead came in the top of the 8th. The Cajuns had the bases loaded with nobody out but they got 2 straight outs after. The Cajuns would get a clutch base hit from Sebastian Toro to retake the lead 3-1. The Colonels had a chance to at least tie the game in the bottom of the 8th when they had the bases loaded but Brock Batty was a able to end the inning with a strikeout. Michael Leaumont would strike out the side in the 9th giving the Cajuns their 3rd straight victory.
The Cajuns will play on the road again tomorrow when they travel to Lake Charles to play McNeese State. The Cajuns will return home when they face off against Loyola Marymount.
