The 7th-ranked Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team won their 2016 home opener on Friday afternoon, defeating the 6th-ranked Oregon Ducks, 3-2, in first game of the 30th Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.

The victory extended Louisiana's season-opening win streak to six games.

The Cajuns  got on the scoreboard first, scoring three of their runs in the top half of the fourth inning, when freshman third baseman Kara Gremillion doubled down the right field line, scoring two runs, before scoring on a single off the bat of junior second baseman Hayley Hayden, to give UL a 3-0 advantage.

Oregon trimmed the deficit to one rule in the bottom half of the fifth inning, scoring two runs on three hits. But that's as close a they'd get, as Louisiana held on to win by one run.

Hayden led the way at the plate for the Cajuns, going 2-for-4 with a run batted in, while Gremillion drove home two runs with the big double.

Junior right-hander Alex Stewart recorded the win in the circle Louisiana, scattering 10 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5 without walking a batter, as she improved to 4-0.

Megan Kleist suffered the loss for the Ducks, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs over 4.1 innings of work.

With the victory, the Cajuns improved to 6-0, while Oregon dropped to 5-2.

The two teams will square off again at 5 pm.
