The softball win streak continues for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

8th-ranked Louisiana defeated the ULM Warhawks on Thursday evening, 3-0, in the opening game of a three-game, Sun Belt Conference series in Monroe.

The win extended UL's current win streak to 24 games.

In addition, Louisiana also ran their Sun Belt Conference win streak to 25 games to begin this season, while improving their overall league win streak to 30 games, dating back to last year.

The Cajuns now only need one win over the final two games of the series to extend their league series win streak to 55, a school and Sun Belt Conference record, as well as the longest current conference win streak in the nation.

Louisiana has not dropped a conference series since the weekend of St. Patrick's Day in 2013.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the top half of the third inning. when Jolie Redeaux walked, before scoring on a double off the bat of Keeli Milligan, to grab a 1-0 lead.

UL added another run in the top half of the 4th inning, when Lexie Comeaux doubled with two outs, before scoring on a double by Kara Gremillion, to widen their lead to 2-0.

The Cajuns scored an insurance run in the top half of the 7th inning, when Kara Gremillion began the frame with an infield single, before scoring on an Alissa Dalton double.

That turned out to be all the scoring in the game, as Louisiana went on to the 3-0 win.

Louisiana, who outhit ULM, 9-1, was led at the plate by Julie Rawls and Kara Gremillion, who both collected two hits, while Kara Gremillion drove home a run, stole a base, and scored a run.

Summer Ellyson (34-4) recorded the win inside the circle for the Cajuns, tossing  a complete-game, one-hit shutout, while striking out 16 batters.

Adianna Chavarria (6-14) suffered the loss for the Warhawks, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, over 5.1 innings.

With the victory, the Cajuns improved to 47-4, overall, and 25-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, while ULM dropped to 11-40, and 7-17, respectively.

The two teams will continue their three-game series on Friday evening, with first-pitch for the middle game scheduled for 6 pm.
