Water is already rising in parts of Vermilion Parish close to Vermilion Bay.

A Facebook post by The Real J Bird shows water in the Delcambre Canal already at the level of the docks, a sign that winds are pushing water inland.

If this is your first hurricane, you might not know that we are always hoping that when a hurricane comes ashore that it's to our east. Not that we wish a hurricane on anyone, it just that when it is to our east that means no storm surge for us. Hurricanes turn counter-clockwise, which means that the winds on the east side of the storm push inland, and the winds on the west side push water out to sea. This hurricane, of course, is hitting to our west, which means we're going to have a storm surge.

Water is also already high in Intracoastal City. The "old" Maxie Pierce's landing is showing signs of high water, which means that it's only going to get worse as Laura approaches.

If you are in an area prone to flooding/storm surge and are planning to ride out the storm, you might want to read this.

Whatever your plans are for the storm, stay safe.
