Help Arrives in Louisiana Before Historic Winter Storm
Much of south Louisiana is preparing for several inches of snow as a winter storm pushes into the Bayou State.
Snow will accumulate starting early Tuesday morning and is expected to fall for much of the day. As the snow accumulates, roadways and highways could become impassable, and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has been preparing for this.
While we don't often see much snow in south Louisiana, we just aren't equipped for snow removal, but some of our neighboring states are and they are sending help to Louisiana.
DOTD posted a photo of trucks coming in from Arkansas and as you'll see here, they are equipped with what you need to push snow off of the roadways.
According to a social media post by DOTD, "Approximately 60 personnel from #ArDOT, along with various salt brine tankers, snow plows, mechanic trucks, and support vehicles, made their way south to Louisiana Monday to begin pre-treating additional roadways across the state."
State and local officials are asking people to avoid getting on the roads once the snow starts to fall, and Wednesday night much of south Louisiana will experience one of the coldest nights in recent years.
We are grateful that help is here to clear the roadways, but let's all do our part to not extend resources, and let's just enjoy the snow in our yards or neighborhoods.
Often mutual aid is sent here during hurricane season, but I can't recall seeing other states send help here to assist during and after a winter storm.
Stay safe, Acadiana, and check back here for more updates on closures as they become available.
In addition to mutual aid arriving in Louisiana, crews with DOTD have been busy prepping roads and overpasses before the snow even begins to fall
We thank all of the men and women of DOTD for their service and commitment to our state. Stay warm, and please be safe while out in the dangerous conditions.
