When Barbie Was The Big Winner At Christmas
I love Christmas. To me, it's a time when people remember their best nature.
Christmas is a time to show the light and love of Christ.
When I was a kid, I knew all about the birth of Jesus, and how powerful that was for the world, but I also knew that I loved the presents, the Christmas carols and parties.
Now that I am older, I am just happy to spend time with my family and friends. I don't care about the gifts. I care about the love I get to share with the ones who are closest to me.
There was a time however, when Christmas was all about the bows, boxes and the boon of treasures from Santa Claus!
One of my favorite Christmas memories was when I was either five or six. I remember being super excited because I tried to be a good girl so that Santa would reward me with presents!
I remember the beautiful sequins and colorful felt patterns of a train, chimney, presents and angels that made up the Christmas tree skirt my grandmother had made. I remember all the candy she would send to us to put in the bag of a ceramic Santa she had made years before. I remember the wonderful smell of the Christmas tree.
But, the biggest thing I remember about that Christmas, was getting both a Barbie doll, and a portable Barbie closet to store all of her shoes and clothes. These were so popular in the 70's along with Barbie.
I remember thinking that I must have been really good that year, even if I couldn't remember having done that!
It was magical, fun and rewarding to receive such great gifts.
So, what about you? I would love to know about your Christmas stories. Was there one Christmas that really stands out in your mind? Was it because a relative was able to come home or you received that special toy?
Please let me know. I want to feature them as part of a news item for the upcoming Christmas season. Please send your stories to bernie@kpel965.com.
