Flags in Louisiana Fly at Half-Staff on Wednesday March 12, 2025
If you were driving around Louisiana on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, you may have noticed that some flags were flying at half-staff.
No, there isn't a holiday that the state is recognizing, but rather, the state of Louisiana is honoring former First Lady Alice Foster.
Foster, who is the wife of former Governor Mike Foster Jr., died on Thursday, March 6. Her funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Franklin.
Gov. Jeff Landry issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff over all state buildings and the Louisiana State Capitol until sunset on March 12. Some other institutions and private businesses in the state elected to also fly the American Flag and State Flag at half-staff to honor Foster.
Alice Foster was 84 years old and served as the state's First Woman for eight years. Ms Foster was married to her later husband, Murphy J. "Mike" Foster, for 40 years.
We extend our thoughts to the Foster family during this difficult time.
